Authenticity
So this weekend I'm taking a break and decided to get some time with my little girl and watch one of her favorite shows with her. I don't have a lot of patience for television, especially live television. If I can't fast-forward through the absolutely ridiculous number of commercials, I really don't care much to watch it. That even goes for football games of my beloved alma mater Florida State University. Recently, I've spent a lot of time evaluating what's transpired in the past, my experiences and what the future holds and I'm noticing some trends. Our world is definitely changing - the social web is changing the way we do business, there are more opportunities than ever to blaze your own path and the balance of power seems to be returning to the customer.
This last point really got me thinking. Having read Chris Brogan and Julien Smith's Trust Agents and Gary Vaynerchuk's Crush It I'm more convinced than ever that the corporate behemoths of the world absolutely must stand up and take notice and actually pay attention to what their customers want. Fading fast are the days when these companies can dictate to the consuming public what they'll buy and on who's terms.
It would seem that the formula for the new decade is quality and authenticity. With the proliferation of Twitter, Facebook it's becoming increasingly difficult for companies to hide. Read more »
